Held in Pittsburgh, the conference was attended by about 130 engineers internationally to discuss electrical contact properties in power and signal distribution.
"Weibull Analysis of Switch Contact Resistance in Laboratory and Commercial Circuit Breakers", authored by Chi Leung, Eric Streicher and Dennis Fitzgerald and presented by Dr. Chi Leung, discusses AMI DODUCO’s method of developing contact material to meet the performance and reliability required in circuit breakers with intelligent arc fault circuit Interruption (AFCI). The effort focuses on increasing long-term switching life while minimizing temperature degradation and nuisance tripping in the costly AFCI breakers, which will be specified in new construction and electrical remodeling by the U.S. National Electric Code (NEC) by 2008.
The paper reviews contact resistance measurements and Weibull statistical analysis to get better reliability readings in a laboratory switch as compared with commercial breakers.
